Well, according to Polestar (all their cars are made in China and the company is owned by Chinese Geely) a car does not need one!
A Dutch car magazine (probably alerted to the photos by readers but still) published an article with a suspicious number of the Polestar 4 electric cars, with damaged rear hatch

Who would have guessed this would happen? ;D

Polestar realised their cars suck so they stopped selling them in the USA alltogether ;D

Who would have thought designing a car where the rear hatch sticks out further than the rear bumper could be a bad idea?
(The brand is selling very poorly in China so that only leaves the European market...)
-
A mirror and a clear window seem to be the ideal solution to backing into shit, lol
-
Polestar is now barred from selling cars in the U.S. because of data transfer to China.

They're doing anything they can to prevent Chinese EV from getting into the US market. Their tech is much better than ours. Australia and Mexico EV markets are now dominated by Chinese cars.

Thanks, Natty, but I wouldn’t turn my back on that car within 500 yards.

Drove a U-Haul truck from New York to Florida one time.
Even though you don’t do us it often, you really notice when you can’t look behind you like that.
I’m guessing the car has a camera, but that isn’t safe.

I drive a truck, use your side view mirrors, they don’t lie.

Apparently the camera and sensors are slow to activate. So drivers start backing up before they can see on the screen what is behind them.
As Holland is a small overcrowded country with obstacles everywhere, so they hit things. Maybe the camera is on the roof of the car and can't show what's directly behind it?
The Polestar 4 interior has a big screen:

I'm assuming the camera is the thing on the top. It would have a limited view as you get closer to things of about that height and lower
That's probably the most likely reason

LBGHTI+ former car brand Jaguar always copies everything wrong, stupid and pointless, so yes their new EV also has no rear window!
It's an EV
Jaguar doesn't want white hetero male customers anymore
it weighs 2700 kg or 5947 lbs
it costs the same as a Bentley
touchscreen controls
electronic doorhandles that will be illegal in China from January 1st 2027
and no rear window
What could possibly go wrong? ;D
-
No car needs windows.
Just have computer viewing screens on all former window areas.

You should patent that.

Don't look back. Something might be gaining on you. ;D

Or the driver could wear those vr headsets connected to cameras.
