That means at least 4 of the 9 agreed to hear the case. Interesting times...

I hope they get it right.  Talk about a game changer when it comes to illegal immigration.

Oral argument in front of the Supreme Court was today.  We will hopefully get clarity from them in a couple months.

Laura Ingraham
@IngrahamAngle

“Only a moronic nation would allow birth tourism to flourish.”

@JonathanTurley: the policy is “perfectly insane” — and even liberal justices suddenly rediscovered “original intent” when it suits them.

This isn’t settled law. It’s a debate we’ve avoided for decades.

Politicians suck.

Outstanding find by Maze - GREAT throwback to Dianne Feinstein in 1993:

"Should people be able to come to this country, get on Medicaid, give birth to a baby, and then go back to their home country? The answer is no."

REPOST this absolutely EVERYWHERE.

The conservatives on the court tore up the argument the other day. This may be 9-0 against Trump.

I hope not.  Getting this right could result in a sea change in illegal immigration.

I think you are going to be disappointed. The argument they are presenting is that the law is outdated and that any pregnant woman can jump on a plane, come to America and give birth to a citizen. Alito and the others said that if you can change the Constitution based on modern times vs the 1700's then you could change the whole document and it wouldn't mean anything at all.

States manipulate the Constitution all the time. Free speech? 2A? 4th? The list goes on.
Something needs to be done about illegals coming here just to pop out kids. Does that mean there should be a minimum amount of time a parent is in the US before the kid is born? Maybe it only applies to illegals? If you're here illegally, then so is your fetus? Not sure what the solution is.

I didn't listen to the argument.  Did a majority of them sound like they are going to accept birthright citizenship regardless of immigration status?

It seems that way. Trump stormed out with his people and they seemed pissed. We'll see soon.

I know this will never happen, but I wish we could amend the Constitution to say that you are a citizen by birth only if both of your parents are legal citizens at the time of your birth.  Would probably help with illegal immigration.

So now it will take a Constitutional Amendment, which is never going to happen.  Horrible decision.

The Supreme Court upheld Birthright Citizenship, which is too bad for our Country, but we can easily make it up in Congress through Legislation, with the support of the President, that has now been determined during this process. No long and unwieldy Constitutional Amendment is necessary! Congress should start TODAY to work on ending expensive and unfair to our Country, Birthright Citizenship. They will have my Complete and Total Support! President DONALD J. TRUMP

I don't think legislation is an easy fix, because the supreme court just ruled that's it constitutional right.  Cannot change the Constitution by passing a law.  Maybe they can address certain aspects, but this is essentially a done deal unless we amend the Constitution (almost impossible) or we get two new justices to replace two from the majority and the case gets reversed (highly unlikely).  We are just screwed on this anchor baby issue.
