Yes, we speak with our mouths closed and about 30% of the air flows through the nose, giving that "russian" lookalike sound. Brasilian portuguese is more "open" due to the italian influence, maybe some africaneese also.

I went on a tour of the Douro and one of the guides was from closer to Lisbon, so the ones from Porto were giving him shit and calling him a "moor."
