WTF he had literally zero muscles in 1977   :o

Hyper-responder to gear, or what?

That said, it's clear that he's pretty psychologically healthy for a bodybuilder.  Most of today's guys won't go cold turkey until they're at death's door. Some of them would rather die.

Arnold is like an RPG protagonist.  He quaffs a strength potion and gets huge for a while, and then he returns to an average joe physique when the effect wears off, and he's cool with that.

Much more psychologically sound and healthy than the likes of Rich Piana, Kali Muscle etc

Brutal 15" arms
Delts gone
Pecs gone
Hips as wide as shoulders

When this guy's off, he's OFF

You'd never guess that he ever even took bodybuilding seriously.  He looks like a noob gymrat or tennis player.

That's right. He used bodybuilding for bigger, better things. I think he was just jogging for exercise in the late 70's while pursuing other projects like real estate and Hollywood.

One thing I miss about the Golden Era is that most of those guys weren't 24/7 gym rats. Bodybuilding barely paid, so they had real careers and skills outside the gym like construction, business, boxing, chiropractic, acting, real estate,

They trained around their profession, not the other way around. That's probably why so many of them came across as more interesting and well-rounded people.

Nowadays these oiled up thong warriors want to make their entire career in bodybuilding through sponsors, coaching, YouTube and social media. Nothing wrong with that, but it definitely changed the culture.
The gym used to be part of their lives, not their entire identity.
