I'm not sure what you're talking about.  Her original contract with Columbia was for five albums for which she got $3 million.

1990: Mariah Carey — 15,000,000 copies
1991: Emotions — 8,000,000 copies
1993: Music Box — 30,000,000 copies
1994: Merry Christmas — 15,000,000 copies
1995: Daydream — 25,000,000 copies

The first five albums sold 93 million copies.

The Virgin Record deal was five albums for $100 million dollars.

All record labels are not created the same.  What's hard to understand about that?  Def Jams was started in Rick Rubens dorm room.  Columbia Records invented the LP record which still used today.

It’s not a Ben remotely hard to understand and I have never worked in the music industry, so it’s mind blowing that Mariah Carey didn’t know that as a seasoned veteran with multiple contracts under her belt.

Why does it make that Rick Rubin started a record label in his dorm room? Was he still living there when he signed Mariah? Should you mention he is white with a stupid beard and he funded Smokey Mountain Wrestling with Jim Cornette?  What about his relationship with Russell Simmons?

Mariah didn’t know what Def Jam was? She just signed a contract with them?

Mariah assumed that Virgin would promote her albums in the same way Sony did prior to her divorce from Tommy.  In fact the reason she left Sony was because they didn't promote the Rainbow album enough.  She personally met with the CEO of Sony in Japan to negotiate what she would need to do to get out of her contract. 

The whole incident where she went on MTV TRL and took off her shirt was because she thought they weren't promoting the Glitter album enough and she decided to take matters into her own hands.

She was actually with Island Def Jams from 2002 to 2014.  Island Def Jams was part of Universal Music Group (UMG) since 1998 when UMG acquired Polygram.
